FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MCALLEN NATIVE WINS BIG IN HOMETOWN FILM FESTIVAL

Luis Robledo’s debut short film, EL TAXISTA drives off with the Judges’ Award for Best Film at the McAllen Art & Film Festival 2008.

McAllen, Texas-October 5, 2008--Over brunch in Los Angeles with his girlfriend and friend on October 5, 2008, Luis Robledo received a call from his friend Henry Serrato in McAllen, TX. “I’ll have to call you back, Henry. I’m having lunch right now,” Luis disclosed to his friend. About an hour later, the McAllen native returned Henry’s phone call and received word that he had just won the Judges’ Award for Best Film. “Best Short Film, you mean...", Luis clarified. "No. Best FILM. You beat out all the features. Congratulations!" A long silence, finally broken as Henry further explained "I also had a few people that wanted to congratulate you, but they're all gone, now..."

The film, a short entitled El Taxista, has been gaining attention since its festival premiere in August of 2008 at Indie Fest USA. As a McAllen native, the budding filmmaker, counts his win at the McAllen Art & Film Festival as a momentous one not dreamed of in his days as an elementary school student at Our Lady of Sorrows. “It’s truly a special honor to win an award in my hometown and to be recognized for what I love doing.” The 14-minute movie was awarded the much coveted Judges' Award, beating out feature length films and documentaries.

Over the course of 2 months, El Taxista has amassed a total of 7 acceptances and 2 awards; a total that is steadily climbing. Not one to sit back and rest on his laurels, Luis has several other projects already in pre-production both as an actor and as a writer/director. As one who strives to find ingenuity in the everyday, Luis Robledo is a filmmaker to observe as he brings us the full human experience.
